Our November programme offered a wonderful selection of activities at Creative Cafe, with participants trying their hand at charcoal portrait creation, keeping fit with chair-based yoga, and enjoying the relaxing delights of an aromatherapy pampering session.
We were delighted to welcome Glenn Koppany to the cafe. Glenn has 25 years’ experience working as a Community Artist. He has worked in a wide variety of areas, with groups and individuals of varying age and ability and using different media including music, art and theatre. His Art session at Creative Cafe was wonderfully welcoming, with participants arriving to the sounds of Glenn Miller drifting out of the gramophone.
Our invigorating chair-based yoga session got everybody moving. The session has been designed to provide gentle exercise, based on traditional yoga movement.
We rounded off our November programme with a wonderful treat – an aromatherapy pampering session, which was well received by the group. Annie O’Bree is trained in aromatherapy and massage and incorporates gentle hand massage, aromatherapy and touch into her reminiscence sessions to promote relaxation and reduce anxiety. This multi-sensory approach is ideally suited to a range of individuals but is particularly helpful for those with advanced dementia or for those who have lost speech.
At Creative Cafe, Annie delivered a wonderful introductory session to hand massage. The session started with a brief overview of the different types of oils and their uses, before we moved on to gentle arms and hand massages.
The December sessions are well underway and we’re currently finalising the programme for January. Watch this space for more news!
